- Lisa Kudrow (1988-1993) – Conan was already in a relationship with actress Lisa Kudrow, known for her role as Phoebe Buffay on the popular sitcom Friends, in the early ’90s. They had met at an improv class and dated briefly before realizing they were better off as friends. Lisa initially wanted to quit improv classes, but Conan inspired her to stick with her and eventually joined the Los Angeles-based well-known Groundlings comedy troupe.
- Lynn Kaplan (1994-1999) – In 1994, O’Brien began dating Lynn Kaplan, who was working as a talent book for his talk show. By 1996, they had moved into an apartment together in the popular Manhattan building, which also rented to top models such as Cindy Crawford and Linda Evangelista.
- Ann ‘Liza’ Powel (2000-Present) – O’Brien first met his wife Ann “Liza” Powel in 2000 on his talk show. She worked in a commercial for Foote, Cone & Belding. She worked for them as a senior copywriter. For Conan, it was love at first sight. After dating for 18 months, they wed in 2000 in an intimate ceremony in their hometown of Seattle. In October 2003 she gave birth to a daughter, Neve, whom he wanted to give an old-fashioned Irish female name, but decided to go for a simpler Americanized variant. - While attending Harvard University, he was the drummer for the rock band The Bad Claims . He can also play the guitar.
- While at Harvard, he was editor of the Harvard Lampoon for 2 consecutive years. He was the second to receive the award in Harvard’s distinguished history, and 85 years earlier no one had done so.
- When he was first signed on to host a talk show, Late Night, the show’s producers were unsure of him and offered him a weekly contract.
- His show was canceled and brought back on the same night that television executives sought a replacement before dumping him. However, he managed to make his show successful, offsetting the need for another show.
- After a Finnish person told him that he looks like then President Tarja Halonen launched a campaign in support of Halonen in one of the episodes of his show and even designed a skit for it. Eventually, Halonen met him and thanked him by giving his family Moomin dolls.
- He has the distinction of being the final guest on the talk show, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
- He worked with an old friend, Father Paul B.O’Brien, to found Labels Are For Jars, an anti-hunger organization based in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
