1. While attending Harvard University, he was the drummer for the rock band The Bad Claims . He can also play the guitar.
2. While at Harvard, he was editor of the Harvard Lampoon for 2 consecutive years. He was the second to receive the award in Harvard’s distinguished history, and 85 years earlier no one had done so.
3. When he was first signed on to host a talk show, Late Night, the show’s producers were unsure of him and offered him a weekly contract.
4. His show was canceled and brought back on the same night that television executives sought a replacement before dumping him. However, he managed to make his show successful, offsetting the need for another show.
5. After a Finnish person told him that he looks like then President Tarja Halonen launched a campaign in support of Halonen in one of the episodes of his show and even designed a skit for it. Eventually, Halonen met him and thanked him by giving his family Moomin dolls.
6. He has the distinction of being the final guest on the talk show, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
7. He worked with an old friend, Father Paul B.O’Brien, to found Labels Are For Jars, an anti-hunger organization based in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
