Colin O’Donoghue

Few actors have made their Hollywood debut as big as Dubliner Colin O’Donoghue, who has starred in The Rite alongside Anthony Hopkins. Just not detracting was a challenge, but O’Donoghue achieves much more: emerging as a solid promise.

Colin O’Donoghue was born on January 26, 1981 in Drogheda, County Louth (Ireland), into a Catholic family. Studious since childhood, when he decided to become an actor he enrolled in the Gaiety School of Acting, Dublin.

Since 2002 he has tried his luck, especially on television in his country, where his greatest achievement was a more or less fixed role in the series The Clinic . He debuted on the big screen with an anecdotal role in the Irish drama Wild Decembers , and it was a milestone for him when he was signed for an episode of the third season of the television series The Tudors , where he played Duke Philip of Bavaria.

Although success eluded him, O’Donoghue never thought of throwing in the towel. One day he found out that they were looking for an actor of his characteristics for an American production with Anthony Hopkins . Neither short nor lazy, he recorded a video at a friend’s house in Drogheda, his hometown, and sent it to the United States. When he saw it, director Michael Håfström thought he was the ideal lead for The Rite , a horror film based on a true story of exorcisms. He ended up quoting him in the United States to be sure of his choice, and bet on him by giving him the role, despite being a true stranger.

Of course, O’Donoghue is aware that opportunities like this don’t come up more than once in a lifetime, and he’s worked his ass off. His portrayal of a young seminarian in a crisis of faith sent to Rome to learn the rituals of exorcism is impeccable.

There is no doubt that he has made his Hollywood debut on the right foot. It would not be surprising if more offers arose shortly. At the moment, ABC has signed him to star in the pilot of the Identity series , along with Angela Bassett , where he plays a veteran secret agent who joins the division commanded by the dynamic Martha Adams.
