CLINT BLACK MUSIC: COUNTRY SINGER-SONGWRITER
Black dropped out of Stratford High School to join his brother’s band. At first, Clint was signed with RCA Record in 1989. He released his debut album in 1989, Killin’ Time. In 1990, the album was number one on the Billboard Country Albums Chart.
Clint’s first single was titled “A Better Man” in 1989. It was the first single by a male artist. Later, Black released his second album in 1990, Put Yourself In My Shoes. The album was a top 20 pop album chart. Clint has toured with stars like Alabama, the popular American country and Southern rock band.
However, Clint sued his manager, Bill Ham, in 1992. He sued him for breach of contract. He blamed the initial lawsuit on bad advice from Black’s new personal assistant, Jonni Hartman, his stepmother. Clint had sold over 5 million copies of his first two albums by mid-1992. He then released his third album, “The Hard Way,” in July. The delay in his release was caused by the difficulties of Ham’s case. The album was to be released the previous year.
Black released their third album in mid-1996. He did it to promote it. The tour lasted 11 months. Black gave the album a new look, changing the style of clothing. He left his trademark hat. Around after ‘The Hard Way’, Black released ‘No Time to Kill’. It was his fourth album. It received mixed reviews from audiences. Black also dueted with Wynonna Judd. The song, “A Bad Goodbye,” was declared “the type of radio-ready big-production ballad…” by the Houston Chronicles.

Black released “One Emotion” in 1995. It was a platinum-certified album in the United States. The album was a huge success. Black, in 1996, became the fourth country music singer to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1997 Clint released his other album; ‘Nothin’ but the taillights’. It did not receive positive reviews. Many famous people have criticized him. Black ventured slightly into Big Band Jazz in 1998. He did a cover of the Christmas song “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” He later directed the animated film soundtrack of the song.
Clint’s album ‘D’lectrified’ was released in 1998. It relied entirely on acoustic instruments. Three of the songs on the album were remakes of his singles. Black took a break from his career after his wife gave birth. He was on a three-year hiatus. While on hiatus, he formed his own record label, Equity Music Group. The new label operated differently from RCA. Black released his debut album, “Spend My Time,” under the label.
Black has over 15 albums to his name so far. He is known as one of the legends of American country music and his legacy still lives on. Black has also ventured into movies and TV shows. He has appeared on various television shows such as ‘Nashville Star’ and ‘Celebrity Apprentice’. He appeared in films such as “Anger Management” (2003).
