Claudio Biern Boyd
He had the children of the 80’s hooked on television with series like “Dartacán and the three musket dogs” and “Around the World with Willy Fog”. Audiovisual producer Claudio Biern Boyd passed away on October 17, 2022, at the age of 81.
Born on November 21, 1940 in Palma de Mallorca, Claudio Biern Boyd was the son of a Catalan father and a Scottish mother. He studied Law at the Bilbao University of Deusto. In 1962 he entered promotion and marketing at Lever Ibérica, and after carrying out the same work in other Spanish subsidiaries of various multinationals, in 1972 he founded the company BRB, which managed the rights and sale of official products of Hanna-Barbera drawings and Warner. The company came up with the idea for the popular “Pink Panther” cupcake.
In 1980, the executive decided to make the leap to production, with Ruy, el pequeño Cid , whose scripts were created in Spain, but the animation was done in Korea. It was followed by his greatest success, D’Artacan and the 3 Musketeers , an adaptation with canine characters of the immortal classic by Dumas, which he swept away. Then came Soccer in Action, Around the World with Willy Fog , and David the Gnome . “Each of my products defends concepts such as loyalty, persistence and in David, the Gnome , environmentalism,” he explained in an interview. “I made that claim 35 years ago. If the world had listened to the gnomes, we would not be today as we are with climate change”.
With the arrival of the 90s, he shot productions of lower quality, which have less significance, such as The Return of D’Artacan and Willy Fog 2 , far removed from the level of their predecessors, or Zipi y Zape , which recovered the popular characters from Escobar comics. His last work was the feature film D’Artacán y los tres musqueperros , which reconverted the protagonists into digitally animated characters.
