Hynde had an interest in rock music and being a pop star since she was young. She always went to Cleveland to see her “heroes”, to play, to live. Chris left for London and discovered the emerging new wave of rock called ‘punk’.
She worked in a structural company for eight months. Shortly after, she met the writer Nick Kent and found a job in the British music magazine “NME”, where she half-heartedly composed articles. Dissatisfied with her job, she quit her job and worked at a clothing store called ‘SEX’. She visited France in 1976 and tried to form a band, which didn’t work out.
She joins the group “The Frenchies”. After the departure of the group’s sole artist, she took over as the lead artist. She then left the band and returned to London and became involved in punk development. At the end of 1976, she authorized a trial for group individuals for another group which was named 999.
When the band 999 failed to take off, she joined Bosses of the Rear as a guitarist. For also played with the group Johnny Moped. In 1978 she joined the group The Moors Murderers for a brief period.

She arranged a demo tape and gave it to real Records boss Dave Hill in 1978. She met bassist Pete Farndon and together they started the band ‘The Pretenders’ after recruiting a few other musicians.
They created and released the single “Stop Your Sobbing” in January 1979 and played their first gigs in a Parisian club. The single reached the top 30 in the UK. making the group become popular with the release of their first studio album, “Pretenders”, on January 7, 1980.
It was a mix of rock, punk and pop music and featured singles ‘Stop Your Crying’, ‘Kid’ and ‘Brass in Pocket’. The group released another album, ‘Extended Play’ in 1981. It included the songs ‘Message of Love’ and ‘Talk of the Town’, which were also part of their album ‘Pretenders II’, which they released last same year.
Pete Fardon was fired from the band in 1982. Honeyman-Scot, the band’s guitarist, died aged 25. Martin Chambers, the band’s drummer, left the band in the mid-1980s. In 1984, the band released their third album, ‘Learning to Crawl’.
The Pretenders released their fourth album in 1986, followed by their fifth, ‘Packed’, released in 1990. The group released their sixth album, Last of the Independence in 1994. On June 10, 2014, Hynde released their first solo album , Stockholm.
