Chris Tucker
For years he enjoyed fame and money for his role as Detective Carter in the “Rush Hour” saga, after which he disappeared from the big screen. After years of absence, he returns with a small role in “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Christopher Tucker was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 31, 1971. He was the youngest of the six children born to the couple formed by Norris, owner of a cleaning company, and Mary Louis, who spent part of her time collaborating with his church. He spent his childhood and youth in Decatour, Georgia, where he decided to leave after high school to try his hand at acting in Los Angeles. For a while he was dating casting director Azra Prior, with whom he had his thirteen-year-old son Destin.
Like many other actors, Chris Tucker began his Hollywood career playing small roles on television. His first appearance was in 1988, in a chapter of the Rosseane series , playing himself. Later, he would regularly participate in the “Def Jam Comedy” program, where he would stand out for quality humor without tacky resources.
His jump to the cinema would come in 1994, with a small role in House Party 3 . The following year, he would appear in the F. Gary comedy Gray Friday , where he played a stoner. Despite making a name for himself as a comedic actor, Tucker switched gears in his next job, revealing himself as a solid dramatic actor in Money to Burn .
The year 1997 would be the most intense of his career, as he released three films: the action comedy Money Comes First , alongside Charlie Sheen , the futuristic The Fifth Element , by Luc Besson and Jackie Brown , a Quentin Tarantino based on Elmore Leonard who pays homage to “blaxploitation”. It might seem that with such a variety of genres, a future full of possibilities was opening up for Chris Tucker. However, that was not what happened, since a film crossed his career that would monopolize him for ten years: Rush Hour .
From 1998 to 2007, Chris Tucker only made the popular Rush Hour saga tapes , along with Jackie Chan . Although it was very profitable for him, since he became one of the highest paid actors by collecting 25 million dollars for the third installment, for Tucker it would mean the beginning of an acting drought that would last six years.
Between 2007 (the year Rush Hour 3 was released ) and 2012, the actor did not make any movies. The reasons for this absence were various. As he recently stated, he was looking for roles that would take him to the next level, beyond Rush Hour . However, they did not offer him any that satisfied him. To this was added the cancellation of the project Mr. S: My Life With Frank Sinatra , where he was going to be the absolute protagonist. In addition, he had to face the Treasury, with which he had contracted a debt of twelve million dollars.
Although all seemed lost, Chris Tucker returned to the big screen with a small role in the highly praised The Silver Linings Playbook , in which, despite the brevity of his role, he does not go unnoticed. In addition, he is currently on a stand-up tour that has taken him to theaters around the world.
