One of the most fascinating and adored superstars in Latin music history, Selena was nothing short of a phenom who shared all of herself with her millions of devoted fans. Now, for the first time, Chris opens up about their unbreakable friendship, forbidden relationship, and blossoming marriage, which was cut short by Selena’s unforgivable death.
Chris’ powerful story gives rare insight into Selena’s sincerity and vulnerability when she falls in love, her strength and conviction when she fights for that love, and her utter resilience when she finds peace and normalcy with her family’s acceptance of the only man she called her husband.
While showcasing a side of Selena that has never been disclosed before and clarifying some misconceptions about her life and death, To Selena, with Love is an eternal love story that immortalizes the heart and soul of an extraordinary, unforgettable and irreplaceable icon.
TRIAL OF CHRIS PEREZ
Chris Perez loses appeal to dismiss lawsuit brought by Selena’s father; On the hook to pay all the legal fees
After two years of legal maneuvering to have the case thrown out of court, Chris Perez has lost an appeal to dismiss a lawsuit filed by his estranged stepfather Abraham Quintanilla, Jr. that would stop him from doing a TV series about his romance. with the late singer Tejano, based on the book ‘To Selena With Love’.
Selena’s father filed a lawsuit on December 2, 2016 against Perez, his company Blue Mariachi Productions and Endemol Shine North America.
According to Quintanilla’s lawyers, this means Perez breached the contract by writing an unauthorized book about his romance with Selena and signing a deal with Endemol Shine North America to produce a for-profit television series, ignoring the terms of the deal. 1995 agreement, in which he obtained a reduction in proceeds from the “operation of entertainment properties”. Chris argued that he signed the contract under duress, just months after the singer’s death.
Texas judge Judge Nora L. Longoria upheld the February 2017 lower court ruling that denied Perez’s motion to dismiss Quintanilla’s lawsuit against him.
Since the courts have not recognized the grounds for applying the TCPA, which requires the losing party to pay court and attorney fees, Perez is about to pay all those legal fees for himself and his former father-in-law.
“We won in lower court, overcoming their anti-SLAPP motion, and now our case has been upheld in an appeals court,” says Quintanilla real estate attorney Simran A. Singh.
“I am very pleased with the judgment and look forward to pursuing our claims.” With the appeal over and ruling out any further legal action, the case against Perez can move forward.
“Chris’ team is reviewing the Court of Appeals decision…and over the next few days they will be reviewing all of their options,” says Perez’s attorney, Eric S. Medina.
