CHRIS COLFERCAREER
Colfer’s career began when he became involved in community theater. The first show he was a part of was ‘West Side Story’. His next feature was for the production ‘The Sound of Music’ in which he did the character of Kurt von Trapp. When he was 18, he tried out for the nominal character of Russel Fish in the short story “Russel Fish: The Sausage and Eggs Incident.” In it, he played a clumsy teenager who stood to lose his Harvard administration if he didn’t pass the physical test.
Colfer’s first major breakthrough came in 2009 when he was cast as Kurt Hummel on Fox’s ‘Glee’. Chris first auditioned for the character of Kurt Hummel was not a standalone character, but Colfer’s incredible ability and brilliant on-screen portrayed on-screen series creator Ryan Murphy, to expand Hummel’s character so that Colfer could have more screen space.
In the series, Hummel is a fashionable gay countertenor who is regularly bullied at school, not only for being gay, but also for being part of the highly unpopular Glee Club. Many of the things Hummel portrays on screen are directly related to Colfer’s real-life incidents and experiences. After making his mark as an actor, he turned to his “love” writing in June 2011. Following the success of his first book, Chris came up with his second book “The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns on August 6, 2013. The book debuted at #2 on the New York Times Bestseller list. For eleven weeks, the book secured a spot in the top 15 middle-level children’s books.
After the success of his first two books, Chris signed another deal with Little, Brown, and Company for a three-book deal that included two novels and a picture book. It came with the third book of ‘The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning, which launched in July 2014. The book reached number four on the New York Times Bestseller list and spent four weeks on the list. Colfer’s fourth novel, “The Land of Stories: Beyond the Kingdoms”, was released in July 2015. The picture book titled ‘The Curvy Tree’, written by him and illustrated by Brandon Dorman was launched in October 2015.
