Chloe Kim is an American first generation Korean snowboarder born to South Korean parents who moved to the United States in the 1990s. Her love for sports was manifested when her father took her to society to learn the winter sports himself. He got Chloe to practice snowboarding with both feet forward. As Chloe got older, ambipedality or two-footedness set her apart from other athletes. Since 2014, the talented athlete has pushed the boundaries of her sport through complex aerial maneuvers at X Games, the US Snowboard Grand Prix and the Winter Olympics.

  1. Chloe learned to snowboard at the age of 4 because her father tried to get her mother interested in the sport. She started competing at the age of 6.
  2. Unaware of the availability of snowboard pants, her father clipped yoga mats into Chloe’s clothing so she wouldn’t injure herself if she fell during her snowboard practice.
  3. From the age of 8 to 10, the snowboarder lived with her aunt in Valais, where she learned French.
