In this article, we will do a short review of Chief Daddy 2. No doubt, a heavy backlash has been following the recent released EbonyLife’s movie, Chief Daddy: Going For Broke which was released on Netflix on the 1st of January.
The movie came with an aspiration of acceptance from movie-watchers but met otherwisde.
With the 4 scriptwriters, Chief Daddy 2, a a sequel of the original Chief Daddy film made critic more angry as to what Mo Abudu and director, Niyi Akinmolayan were doing in the movie making process.
Before now, Chief Daddy follows a ragtag group of immediate and extended family members as they struggle to claim a part of the wealth left behind by the titular Chief Daddy.
The struggle to claim this wealth enters the boiling hotspot connect of the said ‘trash’, Chief Daddy: Going For Broke.
According to critics, what vexed them the most is the star-studded cast, including the rapper Falz and Nollywood heavyweights such as Shaffy Bello, Funke Akindele-Bello and Joke Silva, the general consensus is that the sequel would have benefited from better screenplay and direction.
Flowing from what Onu Stephen, The Premium Times correspondent said on his review of Chief Daddy 2: “The setup and publicity was aimed at pushing the narrative that the sequel of one of the biggest Nollywood movies of 2018, is a must-watch, when it is in fact, a must-avoid.”

I'm reading reviews of Chief Daddy 2 and I'm in awe that people expected something different.
"New Nollywood" since AY and co entered, has become a high budget extended-skit factory.
Old Nollywood – though lacking was much more authentic. Not these influenza driven characters.

While reacting to the film, Nigerian screenwriter, Dami Elebe, appealed that emphasis should be given to screenplay by Nollywood filmmakers.
She tweeted, “Anyway, I’m happy people are having the conversation. Maybe some people in Nollywood will stop hiring writers after they’ve cast and got a location.
“Maybe some of you will give story development a chance and also pay well for it. Maybe you people will stop hiring only famous people, confusing them as influencers. Maybe talent will thrive this year.”
