Charles aznavour
The legendary Charles Aznavour, one of the greats of French music, passed away on October 1, 2018 in the south of France at the age of 94. Still active, he was scheduled to perform on October 26 in Brussels, before carrying out an autumn tour throughout his country. “He was profoundly French, viscerally clinging to his Armenian roots, recognized throughout the world, Charles Aznavour accompanied the joys and sorrows of three generations. Born on May 24, 1924, Charles Aznavour was the son of an actress and a baritone who fled the Armenian genocide, settling in Paris. There they opened a restaurant where his son would meet the many artists who passed through there. As an adult, he triumphed with unforgettable songs like “Emmemnez-Moi”, “La bohème” or “Venice without you”.
Although he is basically known for his voice, the star has an extensive filmography that includes some 80 titles, some quite outstanding. François Truffaut made him the lead in Throw Over the Pianist , where he plays a musician who, after the death of his wife, tries to get away from his troubled family. Another of the greats of French cinema, Jean Cocteau , signed him for The Testament of Orpheus , his last work.
Hollywood signed him to play a showbiz star in Ten Little Little Boys , a not entirely successful adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel . In Germany he shot Volker Schlondörff ‘s iconic The Tin Drum , where he was a Jewish toy salesman. He played his last big role in Atom Egoyan ‘s Ararat , precisely about the massacre of his ethnic Armenians. There he played a film director, transcript of the director himself.
