Hakeem Seriki, known by his stage name Chamillionaire, was born on November 28, 1979 in Washington, DC, United States to a Nigerian Muslim father and an African-American Christian mother. He follows Islam out of religious faith. Chamillionaire is known for being a rapper, entrepreneur, and investor from Houston, Texas.
Hakeem Seriki is also the CEO of Chamillitary Entertainment. His younger brother, Rasaq Serik, is also an occasional rapper. Chamillionaire is popularly known for his hits ‘Turn It Up’ and ‘Ridin’.
Early life and career
Chamillionaire’s parents separated when he was just a teenager and he grew up in a notoriously dangerous urban neighborhood in northwest Houston. His parents were always opposed to rap and that form of music. Hakeem Seriki first gained recognition with his freestyle on a radio station. He gradually progressed.
Hakeem Seriki released the album ‘Get Ya Mind Correct’t with Paul Wall, which sold 150,000 copies. His group was called The Color Changin’ Click, which re-released Controversy Sells in 2005. Chamillionaire’s debut solo album was The Sound of Revenge in 2005, followed by Ultimate Victory in 2007.
In 2007, Hakeem Seriki won a Grammy Award, for his song Ridin Up, in the duet category. Chamillionaire has also explored his acting skills. In 2007, she appeared in a couple of TV roles like Pimp My Ride and Punk’d and The Game.
