Sadly, he died on August 17, 2019 when his motorcycle crashed into a van on RM 2222 in Austin, Texas with passenger Dr. Aamna Najam. His motorcycle collided with the van, both were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two passengers in the van were not seriously injured. On the second anniversary of his death, his family and the Austin Independent School District established the Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy as a mentorship program in his honor.
