BIOGRAPHY OF CATHERINE O’HARA
Catherine O’Hara is a Canadian-American actress, writer and comedian. She is best known for playing a role in the 1974 comedy The Second City.

CATHERINE O’HARA CAREER
O’Hara began her comedy career in 1974. In 1975, she landed her first major television role with John Candy and Dan Aykroyd in the main cast of the Canadian situation comedy Coming Up Rosie from 1975 to 1978.
In 1976, O’Hara and Candy began working on Second City Television (1976-1984), where she won acclaim for both her work as a comedian and writer. In 1981, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.
She appeared in several films directed by Tim Burton, beginning with the role of Delia Deetz in the 1988 film Beetlejuice. Her other roles in Burton films include the voices of Sally/Shock in The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Susan Frankenstein in Frankenweenie (2012).
She also often collaborated with director and writer Christopher Guest, where she appeared in the simulation films; Waiting for Guffman (1996), Best in Show (2000), A Mighty Wind (2003) and For Your Consideration (2006).
O’Hara is also known as Kate McCallister, Kevin’s mother in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992).
In 2000, O’Hara won the Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for the film The Life Before This. In 2010, she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie and the Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for portraying Aunt Ann in Temple Grandin opposite Claire Danes.
In 2016, she won two Canadian Screen Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards for her work on the television series Schitt’s Creek (2015-present). In 2017, she won the 5th Canadian Screen Awards for the same role.
Her other notable television appearances include recurring roles as Dr. Georgina Orwell on the Netflix series A Series of Unfortunate Events, Liz Larsen on Committed, and the voices of Jackie Martin on Glenn Martin, DDS.
During her career, O’Hara hosted Saturday Night Live twice and made numerous appearances on sitcoms, variety shows, and late-night television.

When 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) plays the lead the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O’Hara) puts him to sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he wakes up to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two crooks (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.
