The talented actress was born on March 4, 1954 in Ontario, Canada into a large family of Irish descent. She was raised Catholic and is the sixth of her parents’ seven children.
O’Hara joined Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institute and met Robin Duke who inspired her to join the comedy career. She is a Canadian national and belongs to the White American ethnicity. Her birth sign is Pisces.

The competent actress began her career as a comedian in 1974 in Toronto, where she was cast as a member of a theater company called The Second City. Until Radner left for Saturday Night Live, she was a fill-in for Gilda Radner. After two years, she along with her group members created the comedy show called SCTV in which she became a regular performer.

She is the sister of the talented singer-songwriter Mary Margaret O’Hara and she is a singer-songwriter in her own right and has written and performed songs in the Christopher Guest film A Mighty Wind.
