  • Shehu Sani Says Peter Obi Support Is ‘Drama’, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has dismissed the growing support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as “drama” driven by tribal sentiments.

He also insisted that President Bola Tinubu is on course to secure re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Comments on ‘The Honest Bunch Podcast’

Sani made the remarks during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he featured alongside activist Deji Adeyanju in a discussion on Nigeria’s political climate and leadership.

He argued that many of Obi’s supporters are driven by ethnic loyalty rather than national interest.

“The support for Peter Obi is drama, many of those supporting him and those who come from his ethnic background,” Sani said.

He added that even if Obi becomes president, “nothing changes.”

    ‘Same Ideological Class’ Claim

The former lawmaker also downplayed ideological differences among major political figures, placing Obi, Atiku Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and President Tinubu in the same political category.

“Obi, Obasanjo, Atiku, and Tinubu are people who come from the same ideological perspective,” he said.

Sani further insisted that Tinubu remains the frontrunner ahead of 2027, adding that Nigerians are faced with limited political choices.

“The choice we have is between Satan and the devil,” he stated.

Comments on Insecurity and Past Senate Experience

Reflecting on insecurity in the country, Sani recalled his time in the Senate, alleging that his interventions on killings and kidnappings were often met with resistance from fellow northern lawmakers.

“When I was in the Senate, each time I stood up to speak about the killings and kidnappings of my people, the first attack I got was from Northern senators,” he said.

  • Kano Governor Yusuf Denies Link to Underwear Display at Remi Tinubu Rally

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has denied any involvement in the controversial display of red underwear during a rally held in honour of First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu.

The incident, which surfaced in viral videos over the weekend, sparked widespread reactions online.

    Yusuf Distances Self from Event

Speaking during a special prayer session at the Government House in Kano, the governor said he neither approved nor had prior knowledge of the activity.

“We were going about our normal activities when I was informed that some young women displayed inappropriate items. I was not aware of it,” he said.

    Condemns Display as ‘Inappropriate’

Yusuf described the act as unacceptable, stressing that it contradicts the cultural and religious values of the state.

“Such actions are against our culture and the teachings of Islam, and we strongly condemn them,” he added.

    Controversy Trails Viral Videos

The display had earlier been linked to an alleged empowerment initiative, with reports suggesting it was backed by the state government.

However, the governor’s reaction has now distanced the administration from the development.

  • Sowore Mocks Malami in Court, Says “System Is Now Dealing With You”

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore confronted former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, accusing him of now facing the same justice system he once defended.

The exchange played out publicly, drawing attention online.

    Sowore Takes Direct Swipe

In a video circulating online, Sowore addressed Malami, saying the former minister was now experiencing the flaws he ignored while in office.

“You see how it feels now to be persecuted… we warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen,” he said.

He added that the system was now turning against him.

    ‘System Is Dealing With You’

Sowore, who has had several confrontations with authorities in the past, insisted that the justice system affects both critics and former officials.

“There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now,” he said.

During the exchange, he also offered Malami a symbolic “revolutionary cap.”

    Malami Responds Briefly

Malami, in a short reply, maintained that he remained strong and committed to the legal process.

“I have been attending all my court sittings… I will keep attending,” he said.

He also noted that he had been participating in African Democratic Congress (ADC) meetings but missed the Ibadan opposition summit.

    Wider Debate on Justice System

Sowore used the moment to reiterate his long-standing criticism of governance and accountability in Nigeria.

“We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are oppressing you now,” he said.

The exchange has since sparked reactions, as debates around Nigeria’s justice system and political accountability continue.

  • OAU Explains Obi Lecture Cancellation, Cites Late Notice from Organisers

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has explained why a planned lecture by former presidential candidate Peter Obi did not hold on Saturday, citing late notification from organisers.

The institution said the development was due to logistical and security concerns.

Obi Raises Concern Over Repeated Cancellations

Obi had earlier disclosed in a post that he was scheduled to deliver a keynote lecture at 9am before heading to Ibadan for an opposition summit, but was informed the event had been called off.

He noted that similar incidents had happened multiple times.

“This is no longer incidental; it points to a troubling pattern,” he said.

    OAU Points to Short Notice

In a statement issued on Sunday, the university said it was only informed of the event less than 24 hours before it was scheduled to take place.

According to the institution, a student group invited Obi and requested the use of Oduduwa Hall without adequate prior notice.

    Security, Logistics Behind Decision

OAU explained that events involving high-profile personalities require proper planning to ensure safety and order.

“It is important… to make necessary logistical and security arrangements,” the statement said.

The university added that it could not approve the venue due to the limited time available to complete those arrangements.

    No Disrespect Intended — Management

The institution stressed that the decision was not a slight against Obi but was taken in line with established procedures.

Vice-Chancellor Adebayo Bamire reaffirmed the university’s openness to hosting such engagements, provided due process is followed.

OAU also urged organisers to comply with its guidelines when planning events involving prominent figures.

  • APC Slams Makinde Over ‘Operation Wetie’ Remark at Opposition Summit

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over comments made at an opposition summit, describing them as inciting and dangerous.

Makinde had referenced the “Operation Wetie” violence of the 1960s while warning against the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria.

    Controversial Historical Reference

Speaking at the National Summit of Opposition Political Party Leaders, Makinde said, “They should remember that ‘Operation Wetie’ started from here. This is the same Wild Wild West.”

The phrase “Operation Wetie,” derived from a Yoruba expression meaning “soak him,” refers to a violent political era marked by arson and attacks following the disputed 1965 Western Region elections.

    APC Raises Alarm Over ‘Incitement’

In a statement issued on Sunday, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the comment as troubling.

“It is deeply concerning that a sitting governor would invoke such a violent historical reference,” the party said, warning it could trigger “anarchy, murderous rage and widespread lawlessness.”

The APC added that Makinde’s remarks cast doubt on his suitability as a state’s chief security officer.

    Calls for Security Action

The ruling party urged security and intelligence agencies to take note of the statement, stressing that public office holders must be held accountable.

“Constitutional immunity from prosecution is not immunity from accountability for threats or acts against national security,” the statement added.

    Opposition Blamed for Internal Crisis

The APC also dismissed concerns about a one-party state, attributing challenges within opposition ranks to internal divisions.

It criticised figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, accusing them of weakening their parties rather than building viable alternatives.

    2027 Political Tensions Build

Reaffirming confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, the APC said Nigeria’s democratic space remains open.

The party pledged continued mobilisation in support of President Bola Tinubu’s agenda as political alignments intensify.

  • NDC Moves for Obi, Kwankwaso Ticket as 2027 Race Gathers Pace

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has stepped up moves ahead of the 2027 elections, openly courting Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso with an offer to run on its platform.

The party hinted at a two-week window for both politicians to decide on joining and securing its presidential ticket.

    Deadline Sparks Attention

In a post on X, the NDC wrote: “All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline,” alongside a photo of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands with the caption, “Nigeria will be OK.”

The move signals growing urgency among emerging political blocs seeking to reposition before the next general election cycle.

    ‘OK Movement’ Gains Ground

The development follows the launch of the “OK Movement” by supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso, aimed at mobilising backing for a possible joint ticket.

Justin Ijeh, the group’s national publicity secretary, has since announced appointments into its national executive council, as well as zonal and state structures.

    Wider Opposition Realignments

The push comes amid broader political realignments across opposition parties ahead of 2027.

At the same time, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing an internal leadership crisis, with uncertainty over its readiness for the elections.

On April 22, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in an appeal filed by a faction led by David Mark, challenging a suit involving party leadership.

    Race for 2027 Intensifies

The NDC’s latest move adds to growing manoeuvres among political actors positioning for the 2027 presidential race, as alliances and negotiations continue to shape the opposition landscape.

  • Adeyanju Blasts Tinubu Over Fuel Price Surge, Demands Subsidy Return

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticised the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over rising fuel prices, questioning the impact of recent economic policies on Nigerians.

He spoke during a podcast where he challenged the narrative describing the president as a “master strategist.”

    Criticism Over Fuel Price Spike

Adeyanju said the current cost of petrol reflects worsening conditions for citizens. “Fuel is almost ₦2,000 and people are still calling Tinubu the master strategist. Master of strategy in what exactly?” he said.

He argued that the removal of fuel subsidy has deepened economic hardship, stressing that petrol remains central to daily life and economic activity in Nigeria.

    Calls for Subsidy Reinstatement

The activist urged the Federal Government to reconsider its position and restore fuel subsidy to reduce pressure on Nigerians.

“The President should bring back fuel subsidy because the economy is suffering. If he brings back fuel subsidy today, fuel will come down,” he said.

He added that transportation and other sectors heavily depend on petrol, making the price increase more impactful.

    Comments on Governance and Revenue

Adeyanju also criticised what he described as rising earnings among political office holders, questioning how resources are being managed.

“Can’t you see how fresh and big Akpabio’s stomach has become? The governors in today’s Nigeria are earning 10 times what they used to earn,” he added.

His remarks have sparked conversations online as Nigerians continue to react to the rising cost of living and economic reforms.

  • PDP Faction Disowns Ibadan Summit Outcome, Rejects 2027 Coalition Move

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has distanced itself from the declaration issued after the Ibadan opposition summit.

The group said it neither participated in nor endorsed the outcome of the meeting held in the state capital.

    Claims No Knowledge of Gathering

In a statement signed by State Chairman, Prof. Abdulrahman Akinoso, and Secretary, Dr Abiola Olaonipekun, the faction said it had no prior knowledge of the summit.

Operating under the leadership of former Deputy Governor Hazeem Gbolarumi, the group described the meeting as lacking constitutional backing.

“The so-called Ibadan summit is a ruse. It was merely an assemblage of individuals, not a legitimate convergence of political parties,” the statement read.

    Rejects Single Candidate Plan

The faction also dismissed reports of an agreement to adopt a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

It insisted that no recognised organ of the PDP approved participation in the summit or any coalition arrangement.

“For any coalition or alliance to be binding, it must be anchored on institutional authorisation, not informal gatherings lacking due process,” it added.

    No Alliance With Opposition Parties

The group further rejected claims linking it to any alliance with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or other opposition parties.

It maintained that decisions of such magnitude must follow due consultation within the party’s constitutional framework.

    Focus on Internal Strengthening

While acknowledging ongoing political realignments, the faction said its priority remains strengthening internal party structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also cautioned against misinformation suggesting PDP endorsement of the Ibadan declaration, reaffirming its readiness to fully participate in the upcoming polls.

  • APC Trolls Atiku Over “Sleeping” Photo at Opposition Summit

The National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, mocked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over a photo that appeared to show him asleep during the opposition summit in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Basiru shared the image on Facebook on Sunday, captioning it: “And the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit…..” The photo, from a live Arise News broadcast, showed Atiku seated beside PDP factional chairman Kabiru Turaki.

    Opposition Summit Aims for Unity

The Ibadan gathering on Saturday brought together opposition leaders working to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. Attendees included Atiku, Labour Party 2023 candidate Peter Obi, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The summit also saw opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), demand amendments to the Electoral Act 2026 and raised concerns over alleged bias by INEC leadership.

    Social Media Reacts

The post drew swift online responses. Some users criticized Atiku, while others made light of the moment. Ojewande Taiwo wrote, “This is the man that wants to rescue Nigeria! It’s better he rescues himself.” Tunde Obasemola added, “So shall the election be lost and won while in slumber.”

Others defended or joked about him. Deji Omo Akinsola-Fakanlu said he was “just communing with the gods — he was not sleeping,” while Johnson Erayanmen added, “Please have some sleep, sleepless nights na water.”

    Atiku Strikes a Unifying Tone

Despite the image, Atiku used the summit to emphasize unity among opposition parties. In a Facebook post, he said leaders had “spoken with one voice” and urged the formation of a united opposition to defend Nigeria’s democracy, thanking Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State for hosting the event.
