Casey affleck
Casey Affleck, the little brother of Ben Affleck, has earned an Oscar nomination for his role as the murderer Robert Ford. An envious traitor who has given him the chance to deliver a great performance.
Robert Ford is a famous United States bandit of the late 19th century. He and his brother joined the gang of the legendary Jesse James, a thief and murderer who rose to fame as Billy the Kid. His death at the hands of one of his own contributed to magnify his legend. In The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford , Casey Affleck gets into the skin of this dark character, who, seized with sick envy, pulled the trigger against his former leader. A complex character who inspired Affleck thanks to a photograph in which he posed with the weapon with which he killed James. The image opened the actor’s eyes to his character, “you see pride, fear, doubt, confusion, a thousand feelings that his rigid pose cannot contain”, he comments.
In short, Robert Ford is a character characterized by having lived in the shadow of another. A trait that in certain aspects is common to Affleck himself, since his last name inevitably leads to thinking about the star of the family, his brother his Ben his. However, this film has placed him in his place and has earned him recognition other than his last name, as evidenced by his Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. It has also helped, and a lot, the complex work of him in Adiós pequeña adiós .
Affleck was born in Massachusetts on August 12, 1975, three years after his brother Ben. He studied Physics at Columbia University, though he soon decided that his future lay in acting. His first film break was given to him by Gus Van Sant in 1995 in All for a Dream , where he shared the bill with Nicole Kidman , Matt Dillon and Joaquin Phoenix . Years later, Phoenix became his brother-in-law, as Casey married his sister Summer, with whom he has two children. With Van Sant he repeated in Good Will Hunting (1997), a film that helped his brother Ben and Matt Damon to win the Oscar for best screenplay; and in Gerry(2002), where he debuted as a screenwriter. He has also met his brother on numerous occasions. The first of these was in the 1997 Kevin Smith comedy Chasing Amy , where Casey was a supporting role. He also starred in the comedy 200 Cigarettes (1996). Those were years in which the actor lavished himself quite a lot on the genre of laughter, thanks to titles like Everyone wanted her… dead! (2000), Baby, forget me (2000) or American Pie 2 (2001). He switched genres in 2001’s teen horror Escape from the Darkness , though he still couldn’t find a good part. As a secondary he was named by Steven Soderberghto play one of George Clooney ‘s thieves in the Ocean’s saga . Then came his big break with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007). An opportunity that he knew how to take advantage of by replicating a superb Brad Pitt in the role of Jesse James.
His Robert Ford may be the first good role of many, since up to now he has continued with good performances. For the next job Casey crossed the line to side with the law, accepting the starring role offered by his brother in his directorial debut Goodbye Little Girl Bye . For the occasion, Casey has gotten into the skin of the detective in charge of the case of a missing girl. The good interpretation of him has filled Affleck’s career with hope, because although the saying that says that “there are not two without three” is true, it is to be expected that his next work will also be worth it.
