BIOGRAPHY OF CARY STAYNER

Cary Stayner is an American serial killer. Her life was marked by the kidnapping of her younger brother Steven by sex offender Kenneth Parnell.

He was convicted of the murders of four women; from February to July 1999, in Mariposa County, California, near Yosemite National Park, Carole Sund, her teenage daughter Juli Sund, her teenage traveling companion Silvina Pelosso, and Joie Ruth Armstrong Yosemite Institute naturalist. He was sentenced to death for all four murders and remains on death row at San Quentin Penitentiary in California.

CARY STAYNER EARLY LIFE

It is the true story of the Cary murders and the legacy of his brother Steven . Brothers Cary and Steven Stayner grew up sharing a home with their parents and three sisters, according to SFGate, in Merced, Calif. — a small farming town near Yosemite National Park. While there isn’t much information about what Steven looked like as a child, there is some insight into Cary’s youth.

Cary, the older of the two, is portrayed as a loving brother who enjoyed spending time with Steven in the 20/20 special. According to the Berkeley Daily Planet, their mother, Kay, knew that Cary was “artistic, rarely struggling and calm.” On December 4, 1972, at age seven, Edward Ervin Murphy, who claimed to be raising money for the church, approached Steven after school. Murphy offered to take the boy home after Steven said his mother would be interested in donating.

That’s when Steven’s nightmare began when Murphy brought him to a known pedophile, Kenneth Parnell. Parnell and Murphy took Steven to a cabin in Catheys Valley, where he was brainwashed into believing he was no longer wanted by his parents. An investigation was opened immediately into his disappearance, but the investigation was flawed according to some.

At the time, Cary was 11 years old and deeply disturbed by the death of his father. He told Mike Echols, author of the book I Know My First Name Is Steven that, he remembers going out one night after Steve left and wished his brother came home on a star. He kept saying that, he did it almost every clear night from then until Steve got home. He didn’t tell anyone but remembered wishing a star that his little brother would come home. During this time, in the hands of Parnell, Steven had undeniable sexual, emotional and psychological abuse.

A strange lady Lenna told ABC News ’20/20′ in an exclusive interview that Cary was her mother’s boyfriend when she was 11, hiding her full identity, she said her family (her mother, sister and herself) was very close to him and he taught them a lot of things like swimming. Her dream ended in 1999 when she learned from the authorities that Cary was a murderer and planned to kill them.

CARY STAYNER THE YOSEMITE MURDERER

Cary’s life continued throughout the years Steven was missing, but it was never the same. According to the Berkeley Daily Planet, the 11-year-old felt responsible for the loss of his father and felt ignored by his family, who were overwhelmed by the kidnapping of their son.

Cary was known to be Creative in high school, but he could n’t escape Steven ‘s story According to TIME, Cary saw his brothers attention after returning home and their friendly relationship was never the same.

“We never really got along well after he came back… Suddenly Steve got all these gifts, all these clothes, got all this attention. I guess I was jealous. I’m sure I was…I was the oldest and all that. Then, all of a sudden, it’s gone. I was put on the back burner, you might say,” Cary told JP Miller, a filmmaker who wrote a screenplay about Steven’s kidnapping.

Cary’s adult life would have trouble with the law. But he wasn’t going to become a murderer until he was 37. In 1999, at Cedar Lodge, where Cary worked as a handyman, Carole Sund, her teenage daughter Juli, and Juli’s friend Silvina Pelosso were living. Cary entered their room under false pretences and sexually harassed the two women. He then brutally killed all three, according to History.com.

Although he was investigated, a police investigation did not trace Cary’s death. Five months later, Joie Armstrong, an employee of the Yosemite Institute, was killed by Cary. Originally wanted as an eyewitness, in July 1999 Cary was questioned by police and eventually confessed to all four murders.
