Although her beginnings were roles in movies of little importance, at just twenty years old her first leading role came in Lady Jane (1986), a film directed by Trevor Nunn that narrates real events about the life of Lady Jane Grey, queen of England for nine years. days. Cary Elwes was cast as her husband, Guilford Dudley, while the fleeting queen was played by Helena Bonham Carter , also in her twenties.

The world of royalty was around him, because if there is a role for which he has been remembered for years, it is Westley, the protagonist of his next film The Princess Bride (1987) , by Rob Reiner , a story of romance and adventure based on the novel by screenwriting guru, William Goldman . In it he plays a young man in love, and very cunning, who will do everything possible to rescue his beloved Buttercup – Robin Wright , who began to excel thanks to this film – from a forced marriage, hiding under the identity of a feared pirate.

He was a soldier in Edward Zwick ‘s Glory Times (1989), and a demented lieutenant in Hot Shots! (1991), directed by Jim Abrahams . After this, his most important roles were as Lord Arthur Holmwood in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), directed by the great Francis Ford Coppola , and as the protagonist in The Crazy Adventures of Robin Hood (1993), in which Mel Brooks devises a comedy based on the adventures of the green legged archer.

Since 2000 he has been married to the photographer Lisa Marie Kurbikoff and has always been very involved in political causes such as environmental protection and Native Americans. His career has continued for all these years but he has had few major roles.
