Carrie-Anne Moss
Postmodern air, resplendent black suit, aggressive sensuality, courage and audacity: a role capable of marking destiny.
At this stage of the party (the movie party, that is) we are well aware that the actors’ careers can depend on a single choice or, perhaps, simply on a stroke of luck. And it is quite possible that no one would have known this Canadian with blue eyes and a menacing face, who in a few years became an icon of the new modern aesthetic, if she had not auditioned for a strange futuristic film about a virtual world. . But that’s life. She took the role – no wonder, with how good that shiny black hair looks on her, clinging like she just got out of the pool – and her life changed forever: “Now I can’t wear sunglasses . As soon as I do it, people recognize me”. Perks of the trade, my dear… Trinity.
Carrie-Anne Moss was born in Vancouver (Canada) on August 21, 1967. Since she was little she was very close to music, in fact her name comes from the title of a famous song by The Hollies group recorded the year of her birth. Before she was fifteen, she was taking classes at the Vancouver Children’s Musical Theater, and she couldn’t have done it wrong because she was chosen to be part of a tour of Europe. At the age of 18, she was clear that hers was to stand out from the rest and she traveled to Toronto to start her modeling career. Two years later she got prestigious jobs in Japan and Spain. However, Carrie-Anne wanted something more than to be on the cover of magazines and catalogs and she decided to combine her mannequin work with acting studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, in Pasadena. And things in life It was during a stay in Spain where he got his first role in front of the cameras. It was the TV seriesBlind Justice (1991), filmed first in our country and then in Los Angeles.
Already located in the Mecca of cinema, it made its way with small appearances in small-time series, such as Nightmare Cafe (1992) or Forever Knight (1992). The following year she participated in a series called Matrix (series) , which although it had nothing to do with the virtual world, is certainly an incredible coincidence. She later demonstrated very good manners in the series Models (1994) and even the same year she earned a Gemini Award nomination for her work in Due South . But the truth is that her career in the cinema did not take off: her greatest achievements were cheap telefilms, such as Flashfire (1993), Terrified (1995), together with Heather Graham, or Lethal Tender (1997). Perhaps her first step towards glory was the role of Lucinda Scott in the FX series (1996-97), based on the famous film.
In 1998 he met some such Wachowski brothers, who until then had only filmed a highly erotic thriller ( Labios ardentes ), who were looking for a heroine role for a science fiction film. Carrie-Anne went to the casting… and “the flute sounded”. Since then, mediocre products have been relegated to oblivion, because the role she had gotten was going to open the golden doors of Hollywood for her. The actress won several awards and, right now, Trinity has become a symbol, an icon of the attractive and tough, sensual and implacable woman. Of course, the fierce elegance with which she wears her form-fitting black outfit was a 180 degree turn in her career. After the Wachowskis’ invention, Carrie-Anne became part of larger-budget films, such asNew Blood or A careful band , both from 2000, and where he shared the bill with stars such as John Hurt , Richard Dreyfuss or Burt Reynolds . In that same year, the actor Joe Pantoliano (who plays “Cifra” in The Matrix ) recommended her for the role of Natalie in Memento (2000), Christopher Nolan ‘s first film , who a few years later would become one of the most great film directors Following her intense, ambiguous and dramatic performance, she received the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Independent Spirit Awards and her cachet went up again. She then got into the leading role of the futuristic filmRed Planet and completely changed genres with the romantic Chocolat , by Lasse Hallström . The year 2000 had been hard and happy for her, and not only on a professional level: in September she married actor Steven Roy. It was time for her to take a deep breath in her work, to later take a real beating on the set of Matrix Reloaded and the still mysterious Matrix Revolutions .
However, although the actress had a meteoric start that placed her in stardom, her subsequent films gradually took her to the background. And not so much because of the quality of the productions, but rather because of the importance of her work in the film. The fact is that she became almost always secondary, sometimes with only a few minutes on the screen. Some interest had the thriller Suspect Zero , opposite Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley , where she still played the lead. Already as a secondary we saw her in Story of a kidnapping (2005) and Disturbia (2007), where she played the mother of the fashionable protagonist Shia LaBeouf . She also starred in the independent dramaNormal (2007) , with very little impact, and lately he stood out among the cast of Fireflies in the Garden . In 2012 she returned to commercial prominence with Silent Hill 2: Revelation 3D .
Meanwhile it is clear that there is more to Carrie-Anne Moss than cinema. At the moment she has had two sons and a daughter with her husband Steven Roy. It may be that this is the good reason why her film work has taken a backseat.
