He participated in a hundred films. The Asturian cinematographer, screenwriter and filmmaker Carlos Suárez has died at the age of 73 in Gijón, where he lived for a few years. 

Born in Oviedo in 1946, Carlos Suárez Morilla studied at the French Lyceum in Madrid, and later graduated in Philosophy and Letters and enrolled in the Official School of Cinematography. For a time he wrote boxing chronicles in a Catalan newspaper. He began his journey as a cinematographer with his brother, the director Gonzalo Suárez , from his first short, El horrible ser nunca visto .

He continued by his side in feature films such as Epilogue and Rowing in the Wind , for which he won the Goya for Best Cinematography. He would once again compete for the awards for two other Gonzalo films, Don Juan en los infiernos and Oviedo Express and also for La conjura de El Escorial , by Antonio del Real . He worked for other prestigious filmmakers, such as Luis García Berlanga , in La vaquilla and La escopeta nacional , or Pilar Miró in Gary Cooper, you are in heaven . Maktub , by Paco Arango, marked his farewell to the cinema.

In 1984, Carlos Suárez signed his first film as a director, El jardín secreto , followed by Makinavaja, the last choriso , ¡Semos peligrosos! (use Makinavaja 2) , Goodbye Shark and Los porretas . He also worked as a screenwriter, for example in the Petra Delicado series . He also worked as a professor of photography and lighting at different schools, such as the ECAM (School of Cinematography and Audiovisual of the Community of Madrid) or the Film School of the University of León. He was a French translator and his are the Spanish translations of many of Georges Simenon ‘s novels .
