Carlos Alvarez-Novoa
After many years as an actor, the general public did not discover him until he was 59 when he played the old Asturian in “Solas”, a role for which he won the Goya for Best Newcomer. Carlos Álvarez-Novoa passed away on September 23, 2015, at the age of 75 in Seville, his city of residence.
Born in La Felguera, a small Asturian town, in 1940, Carlos Álvarez-Novoa graduated in Law, Romance Philology and Show Sciences, and received a doctorate in Hispanic Philology. But his true passion was theater, which is why he began to work as an actor in 1957 within the Teatro Español Universitario (TEU).
For many years he combined his work as a literature teacher at various high schools, with small roles in numerous films. Since Crying for Granada , his debut, he could be seen in titles such as Al Andalus or Los años bárbaros .
But he revealed himself as the neighbor of the protagonist of Solas , who, despite its low budget, moved the general public for his vindication of the mother figure. From that moment on, he began to play more substantial roles, for example, as a patient in El hijo de la novia , Cecilia Roth ‘s neighbor in La hija del caníbal , and he even paired up again professionally with María Galiana in a couple of episodes of Cuéntame cómo passed .
During the last few years, he stood out in the theater, in titles such as “Life is a dream”, or “The night of Max Estrella”, with which he was able to make his old aspiration of finally acting on the stages of La Felguera come true, his village. “I already thought that he was never going to be able to do it,” he declared.
He said goodbye to the profession in the series Carlos, rey emperador , where he played Leonardo Da Vinci.
