CARLA ANTONELLI: HER AGE, HER REAL NAME AND HER CONTROVERSIAL DEPARTURE FROM THE PSOE
Born in 1965 in the town of Güímar, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. In 1977 she had to leave her parents’ house in order to continue with her life and develop as a woman, something that seemed impossible in such an environment.
Already at that time he began his political activity, asking for the vote for the PSOE in the first elections of the recently launched democracy. In 1980 he recorded the first documentary on transsexuality that could be seen in Spain, although he had to wait until 1981 to see it.
He was kidnapped by the censorship that was still active in our country. Despite being a recognized member of the PSOE, she did not join it until 1997, and she did so by occupying the position of Coordinator of the Transsexual Area of the Federal LGTB Group of the Socialists .
Along with the late Pedro Zerolo, he was one of the people who worked the hardest for the same-sex marriage and gender identity law to go ahead, going so far as to go on a hunger strike to protest the delay in its approval by Zapatero’s government .
Upon approval, Carla Antonelli stepped down from her party position to become the first transgender woman to play a leading role in a television series . She did it in ‘El síndrome de Ulises’, which was broadcast on Antena 3 with good audience data.
It would not be until 2011 when Antonelli entered the institutions, she did so as a PSOE deputy in the Madrid Assembly, where she was until 2021. , at which time she lost her post after the party collapsed in the regional elections.

In October 2022 the controversial trans law, which is still pending approval in the Congress of Deputies, continues to cause conflict in some feminist sectors of the PSOE, causing an intense internal debate in the coalition government.
