She began her broadcasting career working at several television stations, after which she moved to Virginia to do reporting work. Eventually, she became a reporter for the Orange County Newschannel in Santa Ana, California. Cari worked there for a while, then later joined WPTV-TV in Florida. During her tenure at WGCL-TV in Atlanta, she was fired for swearing on camera, but was later rehired. She then left work there and returned to Florida where she covered the most important stories related to the aftermath of the devastating hurricanes. During this time, she grew closer to tennis and developed a love for the sport. In fact, she then auditioned for the Tennis Channel and got the job.

Later in 2012, she joined ESPN as the host of ESPN2 live chat show First Take. After serving ESPN for a long time as an anchor and after six months of petitioning, Cari finally got the opportunity to work as an anchor on SportsCenter, which was her ultimate goal. In 2015, she was promoted as an anchor for the morning editions of SportsCenter
