She was one of the last survivors of the golden age of Hollywood. She received an Oscar nomination for her role in 1948’s “Fugitives.” Cara Williams passed away on December 9, 2021, at age 96, at her Beverly Hills residence. “Not only was she a brilliant actress with impeccable comedic timing, she was also funny, over-the-top, warm-hearted and loving. She could make anyone laugh and smile if they were having a bad day. She was everything you could want in a mother and more. She is A sad loss to lose a woman like this was incredible,” said Justin Jagoda, her daughter.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 29, 1925,  Bernice Kamiat – real name of Cara Williams –  began working as an actress as a child. After her parents divorced her, she moved to Hollywood with her mother and began attending Hollywood Vocational School. After voicing animated shorts, at age 16, she was signed to a contract with 20th Century-Fox. She began appearing on screen in small, often uncredited roles in such films as Wide Open Town, Happy Land, and In the Meantime, Darling .

After breaking out in the theater with “Born Yesterday”, Cara Williams ‘ career  gains momentum, as she lands important supporting roles in  The Equalizer The Girl Next Door and The Helen Morgan Story . She earned her Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for playing a widowed mother in  Stanley Kramer ‘s The Runaways (1958 ) , opposite Tony Curtis  and  Sidney Poitier . She demonstrated her talent for comedy with  Never Steal Small Things  and  Alone Against the Underworld .

Divorced in 1957 from Alan Gray, father of her daughter, Cara Williams  was together with fellow actor  John Drew Barrymore , son of John Barrymore , with whom she had another offspring, actor John Blythe Barrymore. Since 1964, she has shared her life with Asher Dann, a Los Angeles realtor, who died in 2018.

Cara Williams has  also worked on television. She earned an Emmy nomination for her portrayal as the lead in the CBS series Pete and Gladys . She later starred in The Cara Williams Show . In the 1980s, she retired from acting.
