Cammie King Conlon
Cammie King Conlon didn’t do much in the movies, but all fans will remember her work as the daughter of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara in the legendary Gone with the Wind . The interpreter, who at 76 years old was one of the few members of the cast who were still alive, died on September 1, 2010 as a result of lung cancer.
Born on August 5, 1934 in Los Angeles (California), Cammie King Conlon was chosen when she was 4 years old to play Bonnie Blue Butler, whose death –by falling off a pony– radically affected the marriage formed by the protagonists, in the final stretch of Gone with the Wind . ” Clark Gable was charming, almost as if he were my real father, he was so kind to me,” recalled Cammie King Conlon, who, due to her young age at the time, did not remember anything about Vivien Leigh , for example .
In 1939, the same year as the David O’Selnick-produced film, the girl appeared briefly in the unknown comedy Blondie Meets the Boss , but did not even appear in the credits. In 1942, Cammie King Conlon gave the voice to Faline the fawn, the protagonist’s girlfriend in Bambi , the great Disney classic.
But that was his last role, as he decided to focus on his studies, eventually earning a degree in Communications from the University of Southern California. He dedicated much of his life to working for the Mendocino (California) Chamber of Commerce. He has been divorced once, widowed twice and survived by two children. Shortly before his death he had published “Bonnie Blue Butler. A Gone with the Wind Memoir”, a book about her experiences on the set of Gone with the Wind .
Few are the cast members of the southern blockbuster who are still alive, like Alicia Rhett, painter and singer who played India Wilkes, the sister of Ashley, the unforgettable character of Leslie Howard .
