Cam went to Atlanta Westlake High School where he was a football player on the high school team.

During his senior year at Westlake, Cam began receiving offers from colleges including Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech, but eventually decided to continue his education at the University of Florida .

In January 2009, Cam transferred to Blinn College in Texas, where he managed to lead his team to the 2009 NJCAA National Football Championship.

For the 2010 season, Newton transferred to Auburn University , where he remained until his senior year when he decided not to attend his senior year and to enter the 2011 NFL Draft.

In the spring of 2015, Cam graduated from Auburn with a degree in sociology.

1. As a child, he had a talent for baseball and basketball, but he feared getting hit from a pitch in baseball and also had trouble staying out of bad basketball problems. Newton gave up his career as a basketball and baseball player during his freshman year.
