INTERVIEW WITH CAM GIGANDET – STAR OF “RECKLESS” CAM GIGANDET… – SHE

Cam Gigandet is a movie star. Not because he’s in the movies – which he is, of course (Twilight, Burlesque, Easy A) – but because he happens to be a heartbroken handsome, irreverent beyond reproach, and old school in that slugs-scotch-and-breathes-Camel-Lights kind of way.

In short, the guy is a badass. Need more proof? When I meet the 31-year-old for an Old Fashioneds tour at Santa Monica’s hot spot SHOREbar, he brings a change of clothes crumpled up in a raffia cabana bag and a ‘just in case’ water bottle.

(That’s so Johnny Depp.) But Gigandet — pronounced gee-go-day — who stars in CBS’ racy new legal drama Reckless, which premieres this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST, is also the perfect drinking buddy. .

He’s the kind of guy who lets you try his cocktail, searches for traffic on the Pacific Coast Highway, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Speaking of sleeves (the inked kind), don’t talk about hers, okay? It is a painful subject.

So Cam. You are very handsome. Is it your father’s or your mother’s fault?

It’s not that my parents are beautiful as much as they are both very cute. I think my dad is 5ft 8in and my mom is like a bunny. She is 5’2′ or 5’3′ tall.

Your new show, the legal drama “Reckless,” was filmed in Charleston. Is it a cool city to work in?

It’s a cool city – I like the east coast. I don’t like good weather. I don’t live in LA for the weather.

Where would you live if it wasn’t for work?

I would live in New York in the winter and somewhere else where it rains in the summer. I just prefer the rain. San Fran or London, maybe.

Did you pick up any legalese on set?

‘Objection!’ [Laughs] I think I did? My arguments are not very legal. It’s like, “Fuck you. You are wrong.’ Boom. Do. “You have been sworn.” The one thing from that show that I still say now, which I find incredible, is, “Bless your heart.”

Do you say that ironically?

Oh yes.

So we forgot to include you in the ELLE.com gallery for Father’s Day. Some of your fans were quite excited by this omission…

I want to know who beat me on this list!

Bailiff. Hugh Jackman. David Beckham. Objection?

Not yet. All of this is good. Who else?

I don’t remember – I only remember the outraged Gee-Gee-Go-Day fans…

Oh good. Thanks Mom. It was clearly my mom and dad scouring the internet for random injustices.

Have you ever done a Google search?

Damn no. I think I did when I moved here. I would go to IMBD, but now it’s like I’m online, it’s porn or email. I don’t even do emails, really. So it’s just porn I guess.

What are your sites?

Well, that’s way too revealing. I will tell you later. I don’t even like phones. I can’t do Twitter. I mean, Instagram, I try as hard as I can, but it’s really just my kids. Which is the other: MySpace or Facebook? I don’t do any of that.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as ‘what’s clean’. T-shirts and jeans. That is just about everything. Once in a while, I like to wear suits, but I mean, it’s not really a style.

What TV do you like to watch?

You mean outside of porn? [Laughs] Game of Thrones, the new and the old 24, Homeland, The Blacklist, Justified, Suits…

Who is your favorite boyfriend?

My father. He likes Old Fashioneds, wine or scotch on the rocks. And beer. Beer too.

What are you randomly good at?

Ping-pong.

What are you bad at that everyone thinks you’re good at?

I’m not bad at anything so… Oh, um, be humble! Haha no, just kidding. Poker. Or am I bluffing?

Good. If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could probably have Caramel Frappuccinos for the rest of my life.

What is the movie you refuse to turn off when activated?

Contact – Just watched this and couldn’t turn it off. Fight club. Gladiator. It’ll be four in the morning and I’ll be just a foot away from the TV, going to bed, and I just can’t move. And the ads are even interesting at this point. I just watched Waitress with Keri Russell. Oh Americans, this is another show I love!

Do you have lots of tattoos?

This one is my favorite [forearm tattoo gestures]. I want to do something similar with my son’s name. I have a tattoo here [gestures for ‘Godspeed’ on my hip]. I’ve analyzed this thing so much I hate it now. It’s not shaded enough…

Yeah, tattoo anxiety is unique hell.

It’s so much worse. [Gestures for faded tattoo on bicep] Sounds good compared to what it was. I did the black part when I was 16.

My father took me. I could say, “Oh, it’s my dad’s fault,” but I was convincing. I was like, ‘I want a dragon!’ That’s what it is – by the way – a dragon. So a few years later, living alone and knowing shit shit, I went to a tattoo artist I liked and said, “I just want a background…”

And he said to me: ‘And something like that?’ And so he started – he’s about halfway through – don’t shit on you, that red was practically glowing.

I got home, went in the shower and couldn’t even look at it because I was a little worried. And then I looked in the mirror – I was 22 or something – and I started bawling. I called my dad and I was like, ‘I think I screwed up. I screwed up enough, pretty well. Two weeks later, I started pulling it out.
