Callum Wilson facts

  1. His first stint at Coventry City youth development didn’t last long before he grew tired of being escorted to the training facilities by family, friends and team-mates. He eventually decided to return to the Sunday team.
  2. He opted to return to Coventry City aged 12 but again disliked the academy and returned to the Sunday League.
  3. Coming in for the third time, he knew that Coventry City would work out if he wanted to be a professional footballer. He still had to rely on other people’s elevators to reach the training ground.
  4. During his school days he competed in hurdles and 100 meter races.
  5. In his youth, Callum Wilson also tried kickboxing for a few years. He had participated in about 3 fights and managed to win all 3 fights.
  6. He wears a number 13 shirt because a lot of great things happened in his life at that point in time. He passed his theory and driving test on the 13th and his son was also due on the same day.
  7. In March 2010 he signed his first professional contract with Coventry City . That same month he won the national award for Apprentice of the Month. He became the first Coventry City youth teamer to have won the award.
  8. His first big break came in the 2013/14 season with Coventry City . He made 37 appearances and scored 21 goals. He was named to the League One PFA Team of the Year.
  9. At the end of the 2013/14 season he received the top goalscorer award from his club. He was also voted for the Player of the Player award by his team-mates as well as for the Player of the Season award by the club fans.
  10. In a bid to boost their promotional bid, AFC Bournemouth decided to pay the reported transfer fee of around £3 million to sign Wilson from Coventry City .
  11. In his debut season at Bournemouth Wilson made 45 appearances and scored 20 league goals. He was his club’s top scorer. The club was able to win the Football League championship and secure promotion to the Premier League.
  12. In August 2015, he scored his first Premier League goal in a game against West Ham United . However, he wasn’t satisfied with just one goal and ended the game with a hat-trick.
  13. Unfortunately, his promising start in the Premier League was cut short in September 2015 after he tore an anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He was banned for about 6 months.
  14. In February 2017 he went down with another torn anterior cruciate ligament. This time it was in the left knee and he was again ruled out for 6 months.
  15. In February 2018, he decided to become a patron of Leaf Charity. The charity focuses on supporting blood cancer patients in Hampshire and Dorset.
