Buddy Greene is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonist born on October 30, 1953. Almost all of his recordings consist of gospel music with a distinctly southern gospel flavor.

Most of his music is inspired by country music and bluegrass music. Greene grew up in Macon, Georgia. He composed the music for many songs and co-wrote the Christmas song “Mary, Did You Know?” alongside Mark Lowry . The song has become a popular Christmas song performed by over thirty artists including Peter Hollens , Michael English , Daniel Childs , Kathy Mattea , Kenny Rogers , Wynonna Judd , Clay Aiken , Natalie Cole , Cee Lo Green , Pippa Wilson , Michael Crawford , Zara Larsson , and Pentatonix . In 2016, Lowry performed the song, backed by a cappella group, Voctave.

Greene also wrote ‘He Is’ recorded by Ashley Cleveland and ‘Recovering Pharisee’ recorded by Del McCoury. He is considered a harmonica legend by many and once played a classical harmonica mix at Carnegie Hall.
