Buchi Seeks To Unite Churches With Music Festival
Christians in Nigeria are set to come together to sing old hymns as popular artist, Buchi Seeks To Unite Churches With Music Festival.
- Buchi is set to “unite the church” by organizing a “National Hymn Festival” this November
- The festival will feature a 2,022-man choir in Lagos, Nigeria
- There will be cash prizes and trophies to be won at the festival
Nigerian gospel Raggae guru, Buchi Atuonwu is set to hold a music festival with the aim of uniting “the church” in Nigeria. He disclosed that his drive for the event was borne out of his displeasure over the segregation ongoing in the church.
The inaugural event which will be held at the University of Lagos Sports Centre on November 19 will feature other popular gospel acts like Dr. Panam Percy Paul, Midnight Crew, Ada Ehi, and Joe Praize.
In an exclusive interview with This Day, the musician noted that the event will also feature choirs across various denominations like the Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA), Pentecostal Fellowships, as well as white-garment churches.
Explaining his drive for the festival, Buchi noted that the National Hymn Festival will revive old hymns which once built up Christians in the Faith. The choirs will come together to sing hymns and the best team goes home with N2 million. There are also compensation prizes, trophies, and plaques to be received by the runners-up.
Christian leaders in business and government among other sectors will equally be recognized at the event.
Here’s what Buchi had to say about the event: “There is a kingdom to which we belong. We must respect that. What I have seen in the church today is very much like the cults. These are gangs. That’s not good at all! They even stop their members from mingling with members of other denominations. That’s not right. God has led me to do something that will unite the church.”
