Busby’s interest in weather began in Cleveland, Ohio when he was young. By studying the weather, he understood that television was for him.

In high school, he broadcast weather projections for two Cleveland-based radio stations. After those early days in radio, Busby earned her degree in meteorology from St. Louis University.

He made his debut as a television meteorologist at age 17. In 1978 he started working at KTVI, Channel 2 in St. Louis.

Despite being a lone assistant, he was on the air after just eight weeks at the station as the weekend weatherman.

He stayed in St. Louis for a long time, about 20 years before joining KMBC 9 NEWS. “I will continue to do TV climate until it’s no longer fun. It’s a few more years away,” Busby laughed.
