Willis and his wife Demi Moore campaigned for the presidential candidacy of Democratic Governor of Massachusetts Michael Dukakis. After four years, he backed President George HW Bush for re-election and was an outspoken critic of Bill Clinton. Bruce declined the endorsement of Clinton’s Republican opponent Bob Dole because Dole criticized Demi Moore for her role in the movie Striptease.

He was a guest speaker at the 2000 Republican National Convention, he supported George W. Bush that year. He made no public contributions or endorsements during the 2008 presidential campaign. In June 2007, he stated that he maintained certain Republican ideologies. In 2006, he declared that the United States should intervene more in Colombia, in order to put an end to the drug trade.

In his several interviews, he said he supported high salaries for teachers and police officers, and expressed disappointment in the United States for favoring the healthcare system as well as the treatment of Native Americans. He has also stated that he is a supporter of gun rights, stating: “Everyone has the right to bear arms. If you take the guns away from legal gun owners, the only people left with the guns are the bad guys.

Willis was in Manhattan promoting his film 16 Blocks to reporters in February 2006. One of the reporters tried to ask Willis about his opinion of the current government but was cut off by him mid-sentence: I I’m tired of answering this fucking question. He said he was a Republican – just insofar as I want smaller government, I want less government intrusion.

He wants them to stop shitting on my money and your money and the taxes we give 50% every year. Willis wants them to be fiscally responsible and I want those fucking lobbyists out of Washington. Do that and I’ll say I’m a Republican. I hate the government, okay? I am apolitical. Write that down. I am not a Republican. Bruce’s name appeared in the August 17, 2006 Los Angeles Times ad, which condemned Hamas and Hezbollah and supported Israel in the 2006 Israel-Lebanon war.

BRUCE WILLIS MILITARY INTERESTS

Throughout his film career, he has portrayed in several military characters and films such as In Country, The Siege, Hart’s War, Tears of the Sun, Grindhouse, and GI Joe: Retaliation. Growing up in a military family, Willis publicly sold Girl Scout cookies for the United States Armed Forces. Bruce then purchased 12,000 boxes of cookies, which they distributed to sailors aboard the USS John F. Kennedy and other troops stationed throughout the Middle East at that time.

Willis traveled to Iraq as part of the USO tour, singing to the troops with his 2003 band, The Accelerators. He wanted to join the army and help fight the second war in Iraq, but he was discouraged by his age. He offered $1 million to noncombatants who denounced terrorist leaders Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri or Abu Musab al-Zarqawi; in the June 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, however, he clarified the statement which was hypothetically taken literally. He criticized the media for their coverage of the war, complaining that the press was more likely to focus on the negative aspects of the war.

He then went to Iraq because of what he saw when there were soldiers, young children, mostly helping people in Iraq; help get the power back on, help open the hospitals, help get the water back on and you hear none of that on the news. You hear, “X number of people were killed today,” which I think is doing a huge disservice. It’s like spitting on those young men and women who are fighting to help this country.
