Brent Kutzle facts
- He began playing the piano at a young age. His parents were both in a piano-related profession – his mother was a piano teacher and his father was one of 84 pianists at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles .
- In addition to the piano, Kutzle is a classics trainer composer, as his father suggested should he learn a second instrument. The reason was simple – cellists have less competition in this field.
- He played cello for the title track on the Songs Like Rain (2006), an independent short film.
- Brent directed a soundtrack for the Latin American drama film Beyond the Water (2016) which was based on a true story.
- He joined Eine Republik Band in 2007 but was not a founding member. The former bassist left the band to pursue a solo career and Kutzle played cello instead of bass but transformed the sound with looping, reverb and delay effects.
- His cello hook on the All Fall Down Song by Loud Dreaming (2007) album brought him initial recognition and praise for his cello skills.
- He wrote and produced many songs for the band, along with Ryan Tedder, the frontman, and Zach Filkins, the guitarist of OneRepublic.
- Brent was widely featured singing vocals alongside bass guitar and cello at live concerts.
- He was part of a band called Monarch since 2010. The band was formed in 2003 and later disbanded. He joined new members and together they released a single called Stay on March 28, 2015 on the SoundCloud platform. A little later, in April 2015, they announced a new single called Snow White will be released along with an accompanying music video.
- Brent co-produced or co-wrote many singles from their highest charting number to date – Native (2013). The best known are When I Lose Myself and Feeling Again , but also All the Right Moves , The Good Life , and others.
- The whole band spent a full month in Brent’s garage while performing at the native sometimes between 2012 and 2013.
- He has a sister who also started taking piano lessons very early, around the age of 4 or 5. She also played the violin when she was about 10 years old.
- At least two of his cellos were stolen – one was worth more than $10,000 and was stolen from his family garage. The second was recorded at a live concert by the band.
- Not a very outgoing person, Brent prefers to spend time with his family and especially his wife Jackie. His grandparents had an RV and instilled this habit in him, so he loves to travel with her in an RV when the band is on tour.
