Brent Barry Biography

Brent Barry was born on December 31, 1971 in Hempstead, New York, United States. He is the son of Hall of Famer Rick Barry and his stepmother Lynn Barry was also an accomplished college basketball player.

The second youngest in the Barry family, Brent played basketball at De La Salle High School in Concord, California graduating in 1990. For four years he played on the Oregon State University Beavers basketball team. In 1995 he graduated from Oregon State with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He later was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 1995 NBA Draft. But that same night he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He went on to average 10.4 points per game and 38% shooting from 3-point range in 179 games. Finally, on February 20, he was traded to the Miami Heat. He then signed a $27 million, six-year contract with the Bulls on January 25, 1999. He then spent 4 years with the Seattle SuperSonics. Later, Barry was signed as a free agent in the summer of 2004 by the San Antonio Spurs. He was on the San Antonio Spurs championship teams in 2005 and 2007. He withdrew from his contract and became a free agent on July 1, 2008. A few days later he signed a 2-year contract with the Houston Rockets. On October 23, 2009, he marked the end of Brent’s career when the Rockets released him.

Brent married his high school sweetheart Erin Barry in 1998. They gave birth to two children, but after many years of marriage, Brent filed for divorce citing ‘irreconcilable differences’. There were big rumors that Erin was having an extramarital affair with Tony Parker, the husband of Eva Longoria. But in December 2010, Erin told the media that those rumors were false. However, the divorce was finalized on January 5, 2011 in Texas, which declared joint custody of their children.

Brent is 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighs almost 95 kg and has a well built masculine body. His extreme height allowed him to play point guard, shooting guard and forward, and he was often considered a forward. Brent’s net worth is estimated to be $20 million, which shows that his salary must be high. Brent became the first Caucasian player to win the Slam Dunk Contest title at NBA All-Star Weekend in 1996. Brent won his first NBA championship ring with the San Antonio Spurs in 2005 and later won his second NBA championship ring. NBA championship in June 2007 when the San Antonio Spurs swept the Cleveland Cavaliers. Brent is considered the best athletically among the Barry brothers and to date is considered one of the most valuable players in the NBA.
