“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch
The Red Devils have torn up the 37-year-old’s contract seven months early.
They will also not pay off the £16 million Ronaldo would have earned by June 2023.
United believed Ronaldo had violated his terms of employment with his criticism of the club’s US owners, manager Erik ten Hag, the club’s facilities, his teammates, and former Red Devils players, including Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.
Responding to the news, Ronaldo issued a statement of his own which reads: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change.
“However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
Cristiano Ronaldo will be in action for Portugal against the Black stars of Ghana on Thursday, 24th November 2022 in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
