A firm, has shown its support for the move by the Federal Government to ban the importation of substandard syringes and needles.
A firm, Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Company, in Akwa Ibom State, has shown its support for the move by the Federal Government to ban the importation of substandard syringes and needles.
Speaking with newsmen, the managing director, Mr Akin Oyediran, said reports available shown that the Nigerian market is flooded with such substandard products. Moreso warned that the continued exposure of Nigerians to such was detrimental to health.

According to him, the proposed ban would confer on local manufacturers, the needed push to produce over two billion high-quality syringes expected to satisfy and sustain the local markets.
“The most important thing that we need is to ensure that our people have access to good and quality syringes. Now we have not done the research ourselves, but there are reports all over the place that some syringes that are imported into the country are not sterilised and there are substandard.
“The only way government can take care of this problem is to ban syringes since the local manufacturers like us can provide them. We need to make sure that Nigerians have access to quality syringes.
“It’s estimated that we need about two billion syringes in Nigeria markets. The JSM and others local manufacturers can satisfy and sustain that market,” he said.
