“Lowdown” is a song originally recorded in 1976 by Boz for his album Silk Degrees. The song was co-written by Scaggs and keyboardist David Paich . Paich alongside fellow “Lowdown” session musicians, bassist David Hungate and drummer Jeff Porcaro , would later help form the band, Toto.

“Lido Shuffle” may be a song written by Boz Scaggs and David Paich and introduced on Boz Scaggs’ 1976 album Silk Degrees. It was subsequently released as a single in 1977. Scaggs recalls, “‘Lido Shuffle'” was a song I was talking about.

I… thought of the shuffle (of) a song Fats Domino knew as ‘The Fat Man’ which had a form of driving beat beat that I used to play on the piano, and I just started singing with her. Then I showed it to Paich and he helped me fill it out. It ended up being ‘Lido Shuffle’. The backup band members on “Lido Shuffle” feature David Paich, Jeff Porcaro and David Hungate who later formed Toto.

Released because the album’s fourth single, ‘Lido Shuffle’, reached No. 11 in the US and No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart. In Australia, the track spent 3 weeks at double-A range two with ‘What am I able to Say’.

Silk Degrees is Boz Scaggs’ seventh album released on Columbia Records in 1976. The album peaked at No. 2 and spent one hundred and fifteen weeks on the two00 sign.

It was certified five times platinum by the RIAA and remains her best-selling album. Silk Degrees spawned four singles. ‘It’s Over’, ‘Lowdown’ and ‘Lido Shuffle’ created the top forty, while ‘What am I able to Say’ peaked at No. 42.

In 1975, Scaggs introduced us to “Lido”, a wanderer with a very singular name. Two albums later he gave us Jojo, the first hit song about a pimp (“fifty bucks he’ll get you anything,” “His baby stays high… he keeps her on the street”) .

He wrote the song with David Foster and David Lasley, who was a backup vocalist on the track. Foster also co-wrote the Earth, Wind & Fire hit “After The Love Has Gone” around this time, and was on his way to becoming one of the finest songwriters/producers of his generation.

“The music was Foster; he just starts playing and I start singing with it and writing the words,” Scaggs said in our 2013 interview. “Then Lasley added some words as well. David Foster was writing great R&B songs at the time, with Earth, Wind & Fire and others. He was just David Foster, he’s just a genius. »

BOZ SCAGGS CAREER

After completing his studies, he briefly joined the burgeoning rhythm and blues scene in London, then traveled to Sweden as a solo performer, and in 1965 recorded his first solo album, Boz, which failed commercially. Boz also had a brief stint with the band The Other Side featuring Mac MacLeod and Jack Downing.

Returning to the United States, he quickly made his way to the burgeoning center of psychedelic music in San Francisco in 1967. Joining Steve Miller, Scaggs appeared on the Steve Miller Band’s first two albums, Children of the Future and Sailor in 1968 .

Scaggs secured a solo contract with Atlantic Records in 1968, releasing his second album, Boz Scaggs, featuring Muscle Shoals rhythm section and session guitarist Duane Allman, in 1969. Apart from good reviews, this release did not achieve only moderate sales. He then soon met Bay Area band Mother Earth in a supporting role on their second album Make a Joyful Noise on guitar and backup vocals.

He then signed with Columbia Records and released the albums Moments in 1971 and My Time in 1972. Boz’s early albums, 2Columbia, were modest sellers and sought a new, more soulful direction his record label brought to the former producer of Motown Johnny Bristol for the 1974 album Slow Dancer.

Although the album only ranked eighth on the US Billboard Album Chart, it later achieved gold status, no doubt, thanks to the huge success of Scaggs’ next album, Silk Degrees.
