Despite not having any training in dramatic art, he has managed to share the screen with great acting stars giving life to any type of character. With an unmistakable face that remains in the viewer’s mind, despite not being a regular protagonist. He has received countless rave reviews throughout his career for his work that has led to his winning two Emmys.
Born May 3, 1970, in Union City, New Jersey, of Cuban, Italian, and American descent, Bobby Cannavale attended St. Michael’s Catholic School, where he received a Catholic education. At eight years old, he landed his first role in the school play “The Music Man” and later in “Guys and Dolls”, which turned his hobby into his passion. His parents divorced him when he was thirteen years old, which led him to move with his mother in Puerto Rico until two years later when he returned to Florida.
After graduating from Union Hill High School, he moved to New Jersey to be close to New York and begin his acting career. He started working in bars to make a living while working as a reader in the Naked Angels theater company. He made his film debut with small roles in Night Falls on Manhattan and The Bone Collector . His first recognition as an actor came with a television role, Bobby Caffey in Third Watch .
He continued his career by appearing in the last five episodes of the famous Ally McBeal lawyer series , in the film 100 Center Street , of his wife’s father at the time, Sidney Lumet , and in the miniseries Kingpin . Cannavale continued his path on the small screen with guest roles. He appeared in Sex and the City , Six Feet Under , Oz , Law & Order , and Cold Case. In 2005, he achieved one of the biggest successes of his winning, thanks to his portrayal of Vince D’Angelo in Will & Grace ., an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Comedy Series. Meanwhile, on the big screen, he highlighted his leading role in Crossroads while sharing a cast with great stars such as Robin Williams in Voices at night , Samuel L. Jackson in Snakes on the plane , with Orlando Bloom in Haven or Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Jennifer Lopez in Shall We Dance? .
He first appeared on a Broadway stage in Theresa Rebeck’s play “Mauritius.” Although she received the best reviews for her revival of David Rabe’s “Hurlyburly”, starring alongside Ethan Hawke, Josh Hamilton and Wallace Shawn on the Off-Broadway circuit. His love life has also been closely linked to the seventh art, as he married the actress Jenny Lumet, as has been said, the daughter of director Sidney Lumet , with whom he had a son. After his divorce in 2003, Cannavale has had various relationships such as Alison Pill, Sutton Foster and since 2012 with Rose Byrne .
