BIOGRAPHY OF BOBBY BONES

Bobby Bones is an American radio personality, author, comedian, musician, dancer extraordinaire. He is well known for hosting the nationally broadcast show The Bobby Bones.

In college, he worked as a station attendant at KLAZ in Hot Springs, Arkansas, but was put on the air a few days later. In 2002 he was hired by Q100/KQAR in Little Rock, Arkansas. While there, he broke into another radio station (KLAL), which led to his next job in Austin, Texas, to start hosting his own on KHFI-FM.

He was hired on KHFI-FM for the evening shift and transferred to morning practice soon after. The show built its audience into the top-rated morning show in Austin for over ten years and was syndicated in a few regional markets. It was moved with its show from Austin with its Top 40 format to Nashville and a country music format while taking The Show nationwide.

He appeared in the 2009 feature Bandslam, starring Vanessa Hudgens, and on the ABC drama Nashville. He guest-hosted with Kelly Ripa on Live! with Regis and Kelly. He has been on Fox Sports Radio’s lineup since 2012, hosting the weekend sports talk program Roddick and Bobby with tennis star Andy Roddick.

He hosts ‘The Bobbycast’ interviewing singers/songwriters of all genres. He released his first book on May 17, 2016, which became a New York Times Best Seller. He released his second New York Times Best Seller on June 19, 2018. It was announced on November 6, 2018 that he would be American Idol’s official in-house mentor.

BOBBY BONES FINED

The Federal Communications Commission fined iHeartMedia $1 million for a 2014 incident in which Nashville-based Bobby’s Show aired fake emergency alerts during the nationally broadcast program.

The FCC has cracked down on misuse of the emergency alert system, issuing fines to major news outlets such as Viacom, ESPN, Univision and others. Fines totaled $2.5 million over the past six months.

“The public relies on the EAS tones to alert them to real emergencies,” said Travis LeBlanc, chief of the FCC’s Office of Enforcement. “The misuse of the emergency alert system jeopardizes the country’s public safety, falsely alerts the public and undermines confidence in the emergency alert system.”

The incident took place on October 24 when The Show relayed the EAS tone to its entire unionized audience, the FCC said in a press release. Bobby was discussing hearing the tone on a World Series show when he played the tone for his nationwide audience from inside the WSIX-FM studio in Nashville.

“This false emergency alert was sent to more than 70 affiliate stations carrying The Show and allowed some of those stations to rebroadcast the tones, setting off a multi-state cascade of false EAS alerts on radios and televisions in several states.”
