Bob Stoops is an American football coach born in Youngstown, Ohio as Robert Anthony Stoops. Stoops worked as the head coach and general manager of the Dallas Renegades. He served as head football coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1999 until he announced his retirement on June 7, 2017. In the 2000 season, Stoops led the Sooners to a win at the Orange Bowl as well as a national championship.

Prior to coaching in Oklahoma, Stoops held various coordinator and coaching positions in Iowa, Kansas State and Florida. Stoops received the Paul “Bear” Bryant Award in 2000 and the Walter Camp Coach of the Year Award in 2000 and 2003. Stoops was nicknamed “Big Game Bob” by supporters and detractors alike.

Stoops was named head coach of the University of Oklahoma in 1999. He won seven games in his freshman year leading the Sooners to their first bowl game since the 1994 season. In the eighteen years he spent as head coach of the Sooners, Bob has a combined record of 190–48 (.798).

Ben picked up his 157th win as Oklahoma head coach with a win over Iowa State on Nov. 16, 2013. Bob is tied with Barry Switzer for the most wins in Oklahoma history. Sooners. He surpassed Switzer’s record on November 23, 2013, with a 41–31 win over Kansas State.

He racked up a 39-game winning streak at home from 2005 to 2011. The streak ended when Texas Tech beat Oklahoma 41–38 on October 22, 2011. Bob also had the most wins of the decade of all BCS schools with 110 (2000–2009). Along with Bud Wilkinson, Switzer and Bennie Owen, Bob is one of four coaches to have won more than 100 games at the University of Oklahoma.

Bob led the Sooners to the 2000 BCS National Championship and finished the season undefeated, outscoring 13 opponents by a total of 481–194. His team finished the season in the top 10 in the polls for 11 of its 18 seasons, finishing in the top 5 seven times.

He then led his team to bowl games in each of his 17 years in Oklahoma, ten of which were Bowl Championship Series (BCS) bowls, including the Big 12 Conference’s first Rose Bowl victory then that the Sooners upset Washington State, 34-14, in the 2003 Rose Bowl. In the 2014 Sugar Bowl, Oklahoma beat Alabama and became the only coach to win all four Bowl BCS games and a championship National BCS.

During the 2003 season, his brother Mike Stoops left his position as defensive coordinator and associate head coach at Oklahoma to accept the position of head coach at Arizona. The team has lost two games in a row after leaving this season.

Under Bob, the Sooners have won ten Big 12 Conference championships, the most of any Big 12 team. The team is also a team to win consecutive Big 12 championships. By the end of the 2012 season, Bob had won 98 Big 12 conference games. In the 2012 season, Bob led the Sooners to the top 25 and went to the Cotton Bowl where they lost to Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies , 41–13.

Bob is the only head coach in the BCS era to have won the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl and Sugar Bowl. He officially retired on June 7, 2017.
