Bob Kane
On November 3, 1998, Bob Kane, the creator of Batman, passed away at the age of 82.
Kane’s pen was inspired, in 1939, by drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci; still, he modestly called his character “just a doodle.” He explained his survival in popular fantasy for six decades as follows: “he adapts to each era. He fights against all the injustices in the world. He fights for the causes of the little man.”
Although he fights for good and justice, Batman has a dark side, reflected in Batman and Batman Returns (by Tim Burton ) and Batman Forever and Batman & Robin (by Joel Schumacher ). Bruce Wayne, as a child, saw his parents murdered. He has been fighting crime ever since, but is condemned to a lonely and schizophrenic life. Batman’s companions in Gotham City have become famous in cinema: Robin is Chris O`Donnell; Penguin, Danny DeVito; Ridley, Jim Carrey ; Batgirl, Alicia Silverstone ; Joker, Jack Nicholson ; Poison Ivy, Uma Thurman ; Catwoman, Michelle Pfeiffer; Two Faces, Tomee Lee Jones; and Mr. Freeze, Arnold Schwarzenegger . For Batman there have been three actors: Michael Keaton , Val Kilmer and George Clooney .
