Robert Pine was born on July 10, 1941, at Granville Whitelaw Pine in New York City, New York, to parents, Virginia (née Whitelaw) and Granville Martin Pine. His father, Granville, was a patent attorney. Pine comes from white ethnicity and has an American nationality. Pine was always keen on acting because he used to watch a lot of movies. With the passage of time he realized that he also had talent, so he decided to pursue an acting career.

Pine was first seen in Gunpoint in 1966.
