Petri Hawkins-Byrd, also known by his fame name Byrd, is a television personality, well recognized for his role as court bailiff Judy Judy.
Early life and education of Petri Hawkins-Byrd
Byrd was born on November 29, 1957, in a neighborhood of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Byrd attended Eastern District High School. After graduating from there, he attended Hostos Community College in the Bronx.
Born into a large family of six, Byrd was the eldest of his father and mother, with his two brothers and one sister. Petri gives all the credit for his successful career to his mother, Maiden.
Byrd began working as a judicial officer for the Brooklyn Circuit of the New York City court system. In 1986, he was transferred to the Manhattan Family Court Division.
While working in Manhattan, Byrd met Judge Judith Sheindlin, a supervising judge for the Manhattan Family Court. Later in 1989 Hawkins-Byrd earned a criminal justice degree from John Jay College.
The following year, Byrd and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in California, when he worked for the United States Marshals Service.

Byrd’s professional career began in 1996 when Sheindlin was offered his television series, while Petri Byrd wrote him a congratulatory letter saying, “If you ever need a sheriff, my uniform still fits you.” Later, Judge Judy called him at her house to offer him a part.
So far, Byrd has been with the show for its entire run, making him the longest-serving court show bailiff in history. His central portrayal on the show involves filing cases, handing over materials between the judge and the litigants, dismissing the parties, and escorting them out when the case is over.
In addition to his limited role of speaking and commenting only when Scheindlin is addressed for the most part, Petri is also frequently seen providing surly, offhand expressions or non-verbal exclamations.
Byrd will tell Sheindlin where she’s going wrong and can almost always provide answers in areas Scheindlin is unaware of, such as math, current fashions, technology, computer related topics, etc.

Petri Hawkins-Byrd is a married man. He married his high school sweetheart Felicia in 1980 after dating from college. The couple have four children together, as they are all adults now.
After a couple of years of their marital relationship, Petri’s life changed when he and his wife separated after one or two years of marriage. However, he did not file for divorce.
The couple separated when his wife Felicia left with their four children for the West Coast. But she wanted her marriage to work, and so she moved to California to stay with her family.
Later, Petri and Felicia began mentoring cross country for over five months. She is a living inspiration to all the new parents out there. Byrd tried to reconcile with the family, for which he made efforts, and then they began to live together happily again.
