Introduction

Paul Prudhomme was born on July 13 , 1940 in Opelousas, Louisiana, United States and died on October 8 , 2015. He is also known as Gene Autry Prudhomme. He was a famous American chef; whose specialties were Cajun and Creole cuisines. He was the chef and owner of K-Pauls Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans. He had 12 older brothers. Paul grew up on a farm near Opelousas. His father’s name was Eli Prudhomme, Jr., he was a farmer.

In the year 1957, Paul Prudhomme opened his first restaurant called Big Daddys Os Patio. Due to some reasons, the restaurants closed only in nine months. Initially, after the restaurant, he became a magazine salesman in New Orleans. After working as a magazine salesman, he began creating his own spice blends.

Paul Prudhomme later left the restaurant and opened his own restaurant Clarence Dupuys Maison du Puy. Again, in 1975 he left to become the first American-born executive chef under Richard Brennan, SR. at Commanders Palace restaurant.

In the year 1984, William Morrow and Company published his cookbook called Paul Prudhommes Louisiana Kitchen. In 1989 the book was awarded by the International Association of Culinary Professionals. He was also credited with honors for introducing the turducken to the United States.

In the year 1994, October, Paul Prudhomme made guest appearances? at Le Cordon Bleu, a cooking school in Paris. He traveled to the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba in 2004 along with his 4,000 pounds of food and cooking condiments for the troops stationed there. Due to Hurricane Katrina, he was forced to close his restaurant in August 2005. The following October, he reopened his restaurant.

Personal life

Paul Prudhomme has been married twice in his life. His first wife was Kay Prudhomme, who died in 1993 of lung cancer. Later in 2010, he married Lori Bennette. Paul had long-term problems with his weight, so he wrote a book called Chef Paul Prudhommes Fork along the way. He has no children from his two wives.

On 8 th October 2015, when he was 75 years old, Paul died after a brief illness. After his death, nearly 600 cookbooks, technical food science books and food references from his personal library were donated to the John and Bonnie Hospitality and Culinary Library. The estimated net worth of him is $3.5 million.
