CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER PADDY DOHERTY INTERVIEW: ‘I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WON’

Congratulations! How do you feel after winning? And why do you think you won?
“I swear to God, as true as my wife, I have no idea how I won. We are travellers. I went to Big Brother, and I swear to God I thought I was there for a week. A week, I lasted a week, and jubilantly – I’m in, I’m out.

“I don’t know how I won. How do you earn anything when you are yourself? Not false. I had no game plan – I’m a sausage! Either people like me or they don’t. »

Do you think your time on Big Brother and your victory will give people more insight into the racing community?
“When they asked me to participate in this program, it was a gamble. I wouldn’t say I have a big name, but I have a name like a racehorse in my own turf, and if I went down I opened the door to everyone fucking me and my kids – “You clown”. I said, “Listen, I’ll go” and thank God I made it all the way.

“And thank God you now know Travelers – like everyone else, there is good and bad among all of us. There are no halos around all of our heads. If you look at me – damn it, if a man hits me, I’m gonna hit him back. If a man hits you, you will hit him back.

“But we are travelers – we are not even second class, we are third class in the eyes of the peasants. When I say country people, forgive me for saying that word – it’s like using ‘traveler’ or ‘gypsy’, it’s not an insulting word. But we are third class, we are nothing. ‘

So do you think your win at Big Brother changed that?
“It will put us on a level playing field. We are as good as you. What you can do, I can do. You can read but I can’t read, what difference does it make? But I can make a living and you can make a living. You have 9-5 and I have gardening, trash removal. ‘

You’ve won Celebrity Big Brother – do you consider yourself a celebrity?
‘Far from there. I am no one! How can they call me a celebrity? I’m a winner, but how am I a celebrity? I did not do anything. I haven’t achieved anything in life, I haven’t done anything in life. I swear to God, if you win the lottery, you win it for yourself. You earn Celebrity Big Brother as a traveler, you earn it for your entire race – English, Irish, Welsh and Scottish.

“If you win it, you win it for your whole race, which has nothing to do with you – a different generation. I earned it for them. Audience members won it for me. I would be nothing without my wife – if my wife wasn’t there, it wouldn’t mean anything to me. »

Were you surprised that so many people came to the final to support you?
“When I was on Big Brother, all I hoped for was just for my wife to come see me and my sons. I thought I might shame them. The understanding in the travel community of what I did… When I dressed up as a dog, oh! I was saying to God, “Please don’t do this to me.” And I say, “Woof, woof, woof”… oh! I’m sorry if I disappointed people but I swear to God I was in there myself. ‘
