Nate Ruess is an American musician, songwriter, and singer known for being the lead vocalist for the band Fun, The Format and is also a solo musician.

Early life and education of Nate Ruess

He was born on February 26, 1982, to father Larry Ruess and mother Bess Zinger in Iowa City, Iowa. He has a sister named Elizabeth. Nate cites his uncle John Ruess, a Broadway performer, as influencing his interest in music.

Nate’s childhood was spent in Arizona due to his constant illnesses due to pneumonia. His school education was completed at Deer Valley High School. He graduated in 2000 and then took a job at a law firm.

At the age of 19, in 2001, Nate had already launched the band called The Format with his friend Sam Means. After its first year, the format was signed to Electra Records in the year 2002. After gaining popularity and after releasing two albums, the band stopped making any more albums in 2008.

With Jack Antonoff and Andrew Dost, Ruess formed a band called Fun. Albums released by Fun garnered positive reviews. The song titled We Are Young reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the album sold 3 million copies worldwide. The song also earned the band a Grammy on February 10, 2013.

Apart from Fun Ruess he has also appeared on albums by other singers. Examples include Anthony Green’s Beautiful Things, Pink’s The Truth About Love, and Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

In 2014, Fun stated that they were still a band and hadn’t exactly broken up. Nate has also been following his solo career since 2014. His first song from his debut album Nothing without Love was released on February 23, 2015. His second album, titled Grand Romantic, will be released on June 16. of 2015.
