Mark Dacascos is an American actor and martial artist. He was born and raised on February 26, 1964 in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. Dacascos’ father, Al Dacascos, is from Hawaii and is a teacher of martial arts from a Filipino, Spanish and Chinese family line. His mother, Moriko McVey-Murray, is from an Irish and Japanese family. He was a rock star and performed in 46 states and Canada. He eighteen years in the entertainment business. In the History Channel presentation ‘Samurai’, he discovered that much of the Japanese side of his mother’s family were executed in the bombing of Hiroshima. Mark’s mother, Moriko McVey Murray, was also a student at Sifu Al Dacascos in San Leandro, California.
Dacascos went to Los Angeles Valley College and was on their 1983-1984 gymnastics team coached by Gary Honjio. He also went to Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Dacascos is capable of his father’s style of fighting technique, Wun Hop Kuen Do. Dacascos became an actor after Chris Lee and Rexall Chin found him strolling down the street in San Francisco’s Chinatown for director Wayne Wang. Despite the fact that his first few scenes ended up on the cutting room floor , he went on to establish a film and television profession primarily by playing martial arts. His breakout role was in the 1993 film Only the Strong, in which he played Louis, a Capoeira expert who takes the potential disappointments of a high school and changes their lives by showing them Brazilian martial arts based on the West African martial arts brought by slaves. .
