Early age and education
Marcus Allen was born on March 26, 1960 in San Diego, California. Allen attended Abraham Lincoln High School in California, where he played football. Allen played safety and quarterback positions. He is African American in ethnicity and has American nationality.
Allen joined the University of Southern California from 1978 to 1981 and played running back in football. As a freshman in college, he made the Trojans National Championship team and played as a reserve for the Heisman Trophy.
In 1979, Allen moved to fullback. In 1980, Marcus Allen started as a running back and went for 1,563 yards, which was listed as the third most in the nation.
Allen was also the Pac-10 Player of the Year. He finished four seasons in college with 4,664 rushing yards, 46 touchdowns and 5,232 total yards.
Career
Marcus Allen was selected with the 10th overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders. Although it was his rookie season, Allen rushed for 697 yards and sent the Raiders to an AFC-best 8-1 record. He was also voted the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
From 1987 to 1990, Marcus Allen played backfield with Bo Jackson. In subsequent seasons with the Raiders, he had a rocky relationship with Al Davis , who owned the club. They were having issues regarding the contract dispute, where Davis referred to Allen as a “cancer to the team.”
Allen later left the Los Angeles Raiders and teamed up with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993. He rushed alone for 764 yards, scored 12 touchdowns, and put the AFC ahead. After his 1997 season, Allen retired.
In 1999, Allen peaked at number 72 on The Sporting News’ list of the 100 Greatest Soccer Players. In 2003, Allen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In 2008, after a long break, Allen was seen as a spokesperson for the sports website OPENSports.com . He also blogged and frequently answered questions about the company during his time there.
Personal life
In 1986, Marcus Allen met Kathryn Edwards for the first time and became engaged soon after. The couple married in 1993 at OJ Simpson’s Rockingham estate.
Their marriage is also mentioned in Faye Resnick’s book Nicole Brown Simpsons: The Private Diary of an Interrupted Life . The book was published during Simpson’s murder trial.
Resnick also said that Allen was having an affair with Nicole Brown Simpson , and his wife Kathryn Edward was aware of Allen’s womanizing ways, and if she knew of the affair she would have to call off the wedding. The couple was later asked to testify at the trial and fought her subpoena because they wanted out of it.
The couple divorced in 2001.
