Lola Van Wagenen was born in December 1938, in Provo, Utah, United States. She was raised in a Mormon family. In 1982, she earned her bachelor’s degree from Vermont College. As for her nationality, Lola is American and belongs to the White American ethnicity. It has not yet been revealed about her parents and siblings.

Wagenen later went on to study at New York University and received his Master’s in Public History in 1984. And in 1994, he completed his Ph.D. in American History from the same university. She also received the Distinguished Alumni / Alumnae Achievement Award from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at NYU.
